Iberville Parish Tourist Commission - Plaquemine, LA

The Plaquemine Lock State Historic Site is perhaps the most breath-taking building in downtown Plaquemine.

Completed in 1909, it is on the National Register of Historic Places and features a Dutch influence and a glistening white brick exterior. Located on the grounds of the lock is an open-air pavilion displaying various Louisiana water crafts. The site is operated by the Louisiana Office of State Parks. Just across the street is Old City Hall, constructed in 1848 as the Parish Courthouse.

It is currently the home of the Iberville Museum. St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is located across Main Street from Old City Hall. This building is considered the purest example of Italian Romanesque architecture in the South. Featuring an incredibly beautiful balastrino altar, a handsome campanile and portico, it was completed in 1926.

The stained glass windows of the church were made in Germany after the Second World War.
