Home > Louisiana > St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission

Just 45 minutes from downtown New Orleans, the charming Northshore towns and relaxing green spaces of St. Tammany Parish make for a great getaway.

Tour the brewery, then visit the wacky Abita Mystery House in Abita Springs. Take a leisurely bike ride on the beautiful, 31-mile-long Tammany Trace, Louisiana’s only rails-to-trails conversion.

Sample Pontchartrain Vineyards in the winery’s Old World tasting room. Or head for the exciting Global Wildlife Center, where a slow-moving tram allows up-close interaction with giraffes, camels, bison and other exotic animals. Observe alligators in their natural habitat on a tour of Honey Island Swamp, then learn about, even touch, the reptiles at the Insta-Gator Ranch and Hatchery.

Shop the galleries and boutiques of downtown Covington all day, then head to Mandeville’s lakefront, where you can stroll along the seawall and watch the sunset as the boats sail in for the evening.

And wherever you go on the Northshore, you’ll find great Louisiana cooking. Come feast on life in St. Tammany Parish.
