Middleton Place Foundation - Charleston, SC

MIDDLEON PLACE is a National Historic Landmark and a carefully preserved 18th-centurey plantation that has survived revolution, Civil War, and earthquake. Visitors are invited to tour 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, and the House Museum, where tours highlight family collections and the role of the Middleton's in American history. In the Plantaion Stableyards, craftspeople recreate the activities of a self-sustaining Low Country Plantation.

Middleton Place was the home of four important generations of the Middleton family: Henry Middleton, President of the First Continental Congress; Arthur, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; Henry, Governor of South Carolina and an American Minister to Russia; and Williams, a signer of theOrdinance of Secession.

Middleton Place is located on Ashley River Road (Highway 61) just 14 miles northwest of Charleston.
