Baseball & Apple Pie”  That’s not just a figure of speech in Amherst County; those traditions are as much a part of life here as just about anywhere else you’ll find in the USA. In fact, one of the most popular community events in the region is our annual Apple Festival every October, and we have such substantial youth sports facilities that we hosted the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in 2007. (Of course, our county’s vibrant sports programs also include soccer, basketball, volleyball, football, wrestling, and competitive cheerleading.)

A wealth of other recreational opportunities exists in Amherst County as well, ranging from hiking & biking to hunting & fishing to golf. (Avid golfers will especially appreciate Poplar Grove, a world-class Sam Snead course in Amherst County.) And in addition to the rich cultural offerings of central Virginia, Amherst residents are just three hours from Washington, DC-area performing arts venues.
