Make Your Art
The Art of the Everyday
In Lake City, South Carolina, we’re dedicated to finding the art in everything we do—whether it’s in hosting the largest art competition in the Southeast, ArtFields®, our investment in permanent downtown public art, or in living daily lives that interweave a traditional Southern love of community with a fresh take on the arts and culture. When you stroll through our historic downtown, browse our eclectic boutiques and upscale shops, and view the natural splendor of Lake City’s uniquely landscaped public spaces, you’ll understand why we believe that art is created every day.
The Art of Community
Art is not just about the act of creation, but preservation and community, and we take all these aspects seriously; in fact, Lake City was named in November 2015 as South Carolina’s first Certified Bee City USA, joining cities like Seattle, WA and Asheville, NC as a community dedicated to cultivating and conserving pollinators and pollinator-friendly habitats. Our façade renovation program has preserved our early 20th century architecture throughout downtown, and we’ve adaptively re-used, restored, and renovated many of our agricultural and commercial historic buildings into community gathering spaces—and even a Smithsonian-qualified art gallery—without losing any of the architectural character or rustic spirit breathing within their bricks.
The Art of Downtown
So come join us in one of South Carolina’s most buzzed-about towns and take part in the art! Meet us at the annual ArtFields festival, which draws thousands of visitors to view over 400 works of contemporary Southeastern art in our downtown district and vote for their favorite to win the $50,000 Grand Prize. Enjoy our permanent collection of previous ArtFields winners in our brand new boutique hotel, The Inn at the Crossroads, or visit the Jones-Carter Gallery to see its latest exhibitions in a stunning space that has hosted world-famous artists such as William H. Johnson and Francisco de Goya. Shop for unique items made by expert craftspeople and enjoy our expertly curated antique shops as you explore what is means to make YOUR art.
