With sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Orange County offers fascinating historical sites and museums, picturesque vineyards, festivities and events throughout the year, cozy bed & breakfasts, inns and hotels, quaint shops, and culinary experiences ranging from down-home cooking to fine dining.

Of course, the beautifully restored Montpelier is a must-see attraction. It was the home of James Madison, the intellectual force behind the new republic, and Dolley, his vivacious and politically astute young wife – the woman who inspired the title “First Lady.” The estate's gardens, old-growth Landmark Forest and walking trails are open to visitors year round at no cost. Visitors delight in the breathtaking view, described by Madison as “a squirrel’s jump from heaven.”

As many wine enthusiasts know, Orange County is also a premier East Coast wine tour destination. The area’s prestigious wineries include the world-famous Barboursville Vineyards, where your taste & tour comes complete with breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain views.

Orange County’s Civil War sites include Wilderness Battlefield. Fought in May of 1864 with heavy casualties, the Battle of the Wilderness was the start of General Grant’s Overland Campaign and a turning point of the war.

Additional historic sites in Orange County include the Barboursville Ruins, Ellwood Manor in Locust Grove, Gilmore Cabin just South of Orange, the Historic Orange Train Station and the Montpelier Train Depot.

The area offers outdoor fun of all sorts, from hiking and horseback riding to watersports and skydiving.

Come explore our historic sites and museums, outdoor recreation, quaint shops and art galleries, and gorgeous views. Orange County Virginia. Simply Stunning!
