For the past eight years, the Downtown Art Walk has been held annually on the last Thursday of September in Columbus, MS. It is a cooperative effort between Main Street Columbus, the Columbus Arts Council, downtown businesses, local artists and local musicians. The public is invited for a festive evening where the work of area artists is showcased throughout historic Downtown Columbus, including inside of businesses, in our downtown plaza and on our sidewalks. Visitors can purchase fine art, meet the artists, take advantage of in-store promotions and enjoy music in the streets. Main Street has expanded the musicians in the street so that music can be heard on every block of our vibrant downtown. The Columbus Art Walk Downtown is about building relationships between artists, downtown merchants and the public. We strive to bring artists out that our community may not otherwise experience and to create a free family event for the public that benefits all aspects of the community. We want our local merchants and artists to flourish just as much as we want our community to enjoy safe, life-enriching events that can be enjoyed by all. This last year, in order to adhere to all safety guidelines while still allowing creative fun, we had a facemask contest. Everyone had to wear one anyway and the creativity was out of this world. It was a huge hit! This night is truly a unique, culture rich experience for all involved!
