DESCRIPTION:The Baton Rouge Blues Festival is a free\, weekend-long annual celebration of swamp blues held in\ndowntown Baton Rouge. \nOriginating in 1981\, it is one of the oldest blues festivals in America\, first held\non the campus of Southern University. The festival\, produced by the Baton Rouge Blues Festival and\nFoundation\, honors legendary home-grown blues artists like Slim Harpo\, Rudy Richard\, Silas Hogan\,\nWhisperin’ Smith\, Guitar Kelly\, Schoolboy Cleve\, Chewin’ Gum Johnson\, and Raful Neal. Over the years\,\nBlues Fest has featured nationally and internationally recognized artists such as Bobby Blue Bland\,\nMarcia Ball\, Phil Guy\, Larry Garner\, and Charlie Musselwhite. Notable performances include hometown\nfavorite Buddy Guy in 2016 and Louisiana darling Mavis Staples in 2019. \nSwamp blues\, a genre that originated in Louisiana’s capital city\, gained significant exposure in the 1950s\nthanks to Crowley record producer J.D. Miller. Miller’s distribution of recordings from Baton Rouge blues\nartists through Nashville’s Excello Records brought names like Lightnin’ Slim and Slim Harpo into the\nAmerican music scene with hits like “Rooster Blues” and “Rainin’ In My Heart.”

DESCRIPTION:The 28th annual Double Decker Festival will be held in Spring\, April 2025. Originally inspired by the Double Decker bus that Oxford imported from England in 1994\, the festival showcases Oxford as a town that supports the arts and has grown to be one of the champion events in the region. \nDouble Decker started with the bed of an old pickup truck serving as the stage for music\, and only hosted a handful art and food vendors. Today\, the event is centered around the historic Courthouse Square\, and boasts a crowd of more than 60\,000 people. \nNow in a two-day format\, Double Decker will kick-off on Friday with art demonstrations around the Square and the evening with with music. Saturday is an all-day affair featuring over 100 art and 20+ local food vendors while a generous mix of touring musicians take to the stage.
