Get ready for sand soccer!

The North American Sand Soccer Championships are kicking off June 11-13 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The North American Sand Soccer Championships is the “World Cup” equivalent of international amateur beach soccer attracting teams from nearly 20 states and entries from myriad countries, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Portugal.

Combining U8-Adult amateur competition as well as the professional U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s divisions, most participants return year after year.

Beyond the amateur and pro beach soccer divisions, other beach sports include beach COED flag football, wrestling and sand hockey. When games are done for the day, attendees can enjoy the beach and the oceanfront entertainment.

Hampton Roads Soccer Council has staged the North American Sand Soccer Championships since 1994 to both promote the sport of beach/sand soccer and generate revenues for its premier 75-acre soccer complex.

2020 was shaping up to be the event’s most successful year yet with registrations trending higher and more U.S. Open Women’s teams expected to compete. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the council to cancel the tournament last year, but administrators expect 2021 to boast the same potential with new safety considerations brought forth by the current pandemic.
