Paddle Through History: A River Journey into the Past
Set against the flowing tributaries of the Black River in North Carolina, Paddle Through History invites paddlers to trace the hidden waterways where stories of early America were quietly born. This free event, organized by the Friends of Sampson County Waterways, The Coharie Indian Tribe, and local historical groups, explores the local narratives that shaped the region into what it is today.
As part of the America250 celebration, this experience is more than a paddle trip: it’s a living history lesson on water. Along the river, participants will hear tales of settlement, indigenous culture, trade, and transformation – tying local streams to the broader currents of American identity. Bring your canoe or kayak (or rent one), and join others on this reflective, educational journey through the heart of our shared history.
